Piglin Brutes: The Guards Gold Can’t Stop

TL;DR: A Piglin Brute is a tougher piglin variant that only spawns inside bastion remnants, guarding specific rooms. It ignores gold completely — no armor, no bartering, no exception — and it's hostile to you the moment it sees you. It hits harder and has more health than a regular piglin.

What it does

Piglin Brutes look the part: dark clothing, gold trim, a scar across one eye, and a golden axe instead of the crossbow or sword a regular piglin carries. They only appear in certain rooms of a bastion remnant, placed there when the bastion is first generated — you won't find one wandering the open Nether, and new ones don't spawn in over time the way regular piglins can.

The gold armor rule that keeps regular piglins off your back does not apply here. A Piglin Brute won't even glance at a nearby gold block, won't get distracted by gold items on the ground, and will not accept a bartered gold ingot. It sees a player and it attacks — every time, gold or no gold.

How to handle it

Since there's no diplomatic option, plan for a fight before you open the door to a Brute-guarded room. They hit harder than a regular piglin and have more health, so a Brute fight takes longer than you might expect if you're used to piglins backing off. Fighting from a doorway or corridor, where only one Brute can reach you at a time, works better than walking into an open room with several.

They'll also step in against a Wither or Wither Skeletons if either gets close, so you're not always the only thing on a Brute's mind inside a bastion — sometimes that works in your favor.

Best uses / Best tips

A golden axe is the only thing a Piglin Brute can drop, and it doesn't drop one every time — so don't go in expecting guaranteed loot from the fight itself. The real reason to deal with a Brute is almost always what it's guarding: bastions hide some of the best loot in the game behind these rooms. Bring full health and a plan, not just gold armor, before you go looking for one.

Lore color

Every other piglin in a bastion answers to gold. The Brutes don't. They stand in the same dark rooms, wearing the same scraps of it around their wrists, and they've stopped caring what it means. Whatever gold used to buy from a piglin, it doesn't buy from these ones anymore.

Common mistakes

  • Wearing full gold armor into a bastion and assuming every piglin there will leave you alone
  • Trying to barter with a Brute the way you would a regular piglin
  • Walking into an open Brute room instead of fighting from a corridor or doorway
  • Expecting a golden axe drop every time — it's a chance, not a guarantee
