Nethercon ("we," "us," or "our") operates the website nethercon.com. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it. We built this site for kids and their families, so we take privacy seriously.

Plain-language summary: we do not sell your data. We do not create profiles on children. We collect minimal analytics to understand how people use the site, and an email address only if you voluntarily sign up for our newsletter.

Children's Privacy (COPPA)

For parents and guardians. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), which applies to children under 13 in the United States.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. The core site — articles, audio content, interactive maps, and the Ember companion — is fully available without creating an account or submitting any personal information.

Our newsletter signup requires users to confirm they are 13 or older. If we discover that a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, we will delete it promptly. Parents or guardians who believe their child has submitted personal information should contact us at [email protected].

Parental rights include:

  • The right to review any personal information we have collected from your child.
  • The right to request deletion of that information.
  • The right to refuse further collection of your child's information.

To exercise any of these rights, email us at [email protected] with the subject line "COPPA Request." We will respond within 30 days.

What Data We Collect

Analytics

We use privacy-focused analytics to understand which pages and content formats are most useful. Analytics data is aggregated and does not identify individual visitors. We do not use Google Analytics. If we use a third-party analytics tool, it will be disclosed here. Current analytics data collected includes: page views, approximate geographic region (country/state level), device type (mobile vs. desktop), and referring URL.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies. See our Cookie Policy for a full breakdown. We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking cookies.

Browser localStorage (not a cookie)

To save your progress in interactive site features (such as game elements or personalization), we store small amounts of data in your browser's localStorage. This data never leaves your device and is not transmitted to our servers.

Newsletter email

If you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. This is the only personally identifiable information we collect. We use this address solely to send the newsletter. You may unsubscribe at any time via the link in any email. Newsletter signup is restricted to users age 13 and older.

Contact form submissions

If you contact us via email or a contact form, we retain that message to respond to your inquiry. We do not add contact form senders to any mailing list automatically.

We do not embed social media widgets, advertising networks, or retargeting pixels on this site.
