Action: Day 1: portal only. Day 2: soul sand + wart. Day 3: glowstone. Day 4: Blaze spawner. Day 5: fire res potion. Day 6: Bastion. Day 7: ancient debris.
TL;DR:
- These are 7 Minecraft sessions, not 7 real days — each one has a single goal.
- Day 1 is portal and coordinates only. No fighting. Just look around.
- Days 2-4 build your supply chain: wart farm, glowstone, blaze rods.
- Day 5 is the first potion brew — Fire Resistance. Do not enter a Bastion before this.
- Day 6 is the Bastion. Day 7 is ancient debris and Netherite.
- Each day's trip enables the next one. Skip a step and you will feel it.
The Nether is not hard if you go in order. It is hard when you skip to the end — when you wander into a Bastion without fire resistance, or search for ancient debris without a way to get back to your base.
This is a day-by-day plan for your first seven sessions. "Day" means session — one trip into the Nether with a clear goal. Some might take 20 minutes. Some might take an hour. That is fine. What matters is the order.
Each day, you will see: what to bring, what to do, and what you come home with.
Day 1: portal only — eyes open, no fighting
Bring: basic armor, food, a sword, coordinates written down.
Do: Step through the portal. Note where it comes out. Write down the X, Y, Z coordinates (press F3 on Java, or check your coordinates display on Bedrock). Look around without moving far. Identify the biome. Note what direction the fortress might be (Nether fortresses tend to run north-south). Come back.
Come home with: coordinates, a mental map of the entry zone, zero deaths.
The goal of Day 1 is information. You are not farming. You are not fighting. You are scouting. Players who die on Day 1 and lose their gear are usually the ones who got impatient.
Day 2: soul sand and nether wart
Bring: shovel, sword, food, fire protection if you have it.
Do: Find the Nether fortress. In the stairwell areas, nether wart grows on soul sand. Harvest at least 12 stalks. Pick up the soul sand too — you need it to plant the wart back in the Overworld. This might be your only dangerous moment: Wither Skeletons are in the fortress. Stay near exits.
Come home with: 12+ nether wart, 9+ soul sand. Plant the wart immediately when you get back. Your farm starts today.
Day 3: glowstone and respawn anchor setup
Bring: pickaxe (Silk Touch preferred), building blocks for scaffolding, sword.
Do: Find the glowstone clusters on the Nether ceiling. Build up to reach them. Collect at least 12 glowstone blocks. On the way back, place your Respawn Anchor near the portal (if you have crying obsidian — if not, save this step for after some Piglin bartering). Charge the anchor with glowstone.
Come home with: 12+ glowstone, anchor placed and charged (or a plan for getting crying obsidian next).
Day 4: Blaze spawner — find it and make a basic farm
Bring: sword, bow, arrows, armor, food. Potions if you have any.
Do: Locate the Blaze spawner in the fortress. It is usually at the top of a staircase, in an open area. Build a simple enclosure — four walls, a floor, a gap to attack through. Kill 10-15 Blazes. Collect the rods.
Come home with: 8-12 Blaze Rods. Craft one into a Brewing Stand. Grind one rod into Blaze Powder for fuel.
Day 5: brew Fire Resistance — do this before the Bastion
Bring: nothing goes into the Nether today. This is a crafting and brewing day.
Do: In the Overworld, set up your Brewing Stand. Brew your Nether Wart (from Day 2's farm, if it has grown) into Water Bottles to make Awkward Potions. Brew Awkward Potions with Magma Cream to make Fire Resistance Potions. Magma Cream drops from Magma Cubes — if you do not have any, do a short trip to find some first, then come back and brew.
Come home with: at least 3 Fire Resistance Potions. Keep two in your hotbar for the next trip.
Day 6: the Bastion
Bring: full iron or diamond armor, sword, bow, food, 2-3 Fire Resistance Potions, 10-15 gold ingots (wear gold armor to avoid Piglin aggro).
Do: Find a Bastion Remnant (they are large dark structures, not fortresses — different look). Explore carefully. Loot the chests — they contain gold, netherite scraps, ancient debris, lodestones, and more. Barter with the Piglins inside for additional loot. Do not fight them unless you have to.
Come home with: gold, netherite scraps or ingots, Piglin barter loot, and a clear idea of where ancient debris is if you spotted any.
Day 7: ancient debris
Bring: diamond pickaxe, fire resistance potions, food, TNT (optional but efficient), a way back.
Do: Mine at Y=15 in the Nether — that is the peak spawn level for ancient debris. Ancient debris is blast-resistant and fireproof, so it survives TNT mining (which is one common method). Collect as many pieces as you can find. Each piece gets smelted into Netherite Scrap, and 4 scraps + 4 gold ingots = 1 Netherite Ingot.
Come home with: ancient debris, the start of your Netherite upgrade.
Common mistakes
- Skipping Day 1 and going straight to farming. Not knowing where you are in the Nether wastes hours. Coordinates first, every time.
- Going to the Bastion before Day 5. Bastions have lava floors and Magma Cubes. Without Fire Resistance, you die on the way in.
- Not planting the nether wart on Day 2. The farm takes time to grow. If you wait, you are waiting. Plant it the day you collect it.
- Fighting Wither Skeletons when you are trying to collect wart. They are harder than they look and not the goal of Day 2. Dodge them. Get the wart. Leave.
- Mining ancient debris without knowing your coordinates. If you die at Y=15 in a strip mine, you may not be able to find the spot again. Write down where you were.
A closing thought
The reason this plan works is that it does not try to do everything at once. Each day, you go in knowing exactly what you are after and you come out with exactly that. The Nether stops feeling random.
Structure does not make the game less fun. For most players, it makes it more fun — because progress feels real and the next session has a goal.
