NetherCon This Week — September 28, 2026

Two new guides this week, both about staying calm and un-lost in the Nether, and one correction to an older guide.

New guides

The Lodestone Compass explains why a normal compass spins in the Nether and how to fix it. Link a compass to a lodestone and it points back to that spot for as long as you stay in the same dimension. The guide uses the current recipe, 8 chiseled stone bricks around 1 iron ingot. Older guides elsewhere may still say netherite ingot, but the recipe changed to iron, so a lodestone is now cheap enough to put right beside your portal.

Endermen in the Nether covers where they show up (mostly the Warped Forest), why not staring at them is simply good manners, and what to do if one does get upset. The short version is to break line of sight and step somewhere with a low roof, because they are almost three blocks tall and cannot follow.

A correction

We rewrote parts of Blaze Farming after checking it against the game's reference data. It had real mistakes:

  • It said blazes "resist fire slightly". They are completely immune to fire, which also means Fire Aspect does nothing to them.
  • It gave the wrong damage numbers. On Hard, a fireball does 3.75 hearts and a blaze's melee hit does 4.5.
  • It said Fire Resistance blocks all blaze damage. It blocks all fireball damage, but not the melee hit, so armor still matters.
  • Its blaze rod math counted one blaze powder per potion. In fact one magma cream brews three Fire Resistance potions at once, so a dozen potions takes 3 rods, plus 1 more if you still need to build the brewing stand.
  • Its main tactic, standing one level below the spawner so blazes "have to come down", does not hold up: blazes shoot whenever they can see you. The guide now uses cover instead: a wall or corner you can step behind breaks their aim.

If you planned a blaze trip around the old numbers, you need fewer rods than it said. Sorry about that, and thanks for reading closely.

See you in the Nether

The world is still there if you want a quiet walk between the campfires, and the Complete Nether Guide has a route through everything above.

There is no comments section here and no forum. This weekly post is where the site talks back. If something changes, gets fixed, or gets built, this is where it will be announced first.
