Two new guides this week, and something we care about more than new guides: fixing things we got wrong. First the new stuff, then the corrections.
New guides
Netherite, Step by Step walks the whole road in order: mine ancient debris, smelt it into scrap, craft an ingot from 4 scrap and 4 gold, and upgrade diamond gear at a smithing table. It also covers the part that surprises people, the smithing template that only comes from bastion remnants, and what netherite armor really does compared with diamond (it is tougher and harder to knock back, but it is not "twice as protective").
Weeping Vines, Twisting Vines, and Shroomlights is about the useful things growing in the Nether's two forests: vines you can climb like a ladder, and a block that gives off the game's maximum light level, which you can grow again with a little bone meal.
Corrections to two older guides
While checking numbers this week we found mistakes in two older guides, and we have fixed both:
- Piglin Bartering has been rewritten from the current loot table. It had said iron nuggets were "very common" (they are about 2% of barters), that Soul Speed could only come from bartering (bartering is the only renewable source; a few bastion chests hold some too), and it described Piglin Brutes as "bigger Piglins with no gold", which is not right. It also had some made-up gold-cost numbers. The new version shows the real odds, so you can see how many ingots a Soul Speed book actually takes.
- Ancient Debris had the mining levels a little off. In Java Edition most debris is between Y levels 8 and 24 (8 to 23 in Bedrock) and is most common around Y level 16, and a few extra blocks can appear as high as Y level 119. It had said there was none above Y level 22.
If you followed either guide and it did not match what you saw in the game, that is why. Sorry about that, and thank you for reading closely.
A note on how we check
Game details change with updates, and it is easy for an old number to stay in a guide long after it stopped being true. Each of these fixes started with the game's own reference data, not our memory. We would rather fix a mistake out in the open than leave it sitting in a guide.
See you in the Nether
If you have not walked the world in a while, it is still there, and the Complete Nether Guide has a route through everything above.
There is no comments section here and no forum. This weekly post is where the site talks back. If something changes, gets fixed, or gets built, this is where it will be announced first.
